About the Practice

Bookkeeping that actually makes sense

Hayes Bookkeeping Co. is a remote bookkeeping practice built for small, service-based businesses — the landscapers, cleaners, contractors, consultants, and solo operators who are excellent at their trade but were never handed a manual for keeping clean books. The work is straightforward and consistent: transactions are categorized correctly, bank and credit-card accounts are reconciled every month, and the numbers are organized so tax season and year-end never turn into a scramble.

Most clients come here in one of two places. Some have a shoebox of receipts and a year of unreconciled statements and need a cleanup or catch-up before they can move forward. Others already use accounting software but want someone reliable to keep it accurate so they can stop doing it at eleven at night. Either way, the goal is the same: accurate, understandable books and a monthly report that shows what the business actually earned and spent — explained in plain language, not accounting jargon.

The practice is run by John Hayes, the owner and bookkeeper. He earned a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Alabama and completed Intuit ProAdvisor Client Advisory Services Foundations training, and he competed as a Division I athlete along the way — which is where the discipline, consistency, and attention to detail that bookkeeping demands were learned. Because this is a one-person practice, every client works directly with the person handling the books. No account managers, no hand-offs, no waiting behind a support queue.

Service is entirely remote, which means clients anywhere in the country get the same experience: a free consultation to look at where things stand, a clear plan for what needs to happen, and a standing monthly rhythm once the books are current.
